MySpace has been issued a subpoena to collect and report possible sex offenders using the popular although (perhaps)the worst social networking site. In Illinois alone Myspace was able to identify a posible 584 sex offenders... about 7,000 were identified on a national search however this information was held confidential by myspace until the subpoena has been issued.
I am reminded of when this whole issue first came to light. MySpace's position was that it had no way of tracking its huge user base in such a way that useful information could be extracted. Then came along some guy who wrote a python script from what I can remember, searched myspace and generated a list of profiles matching names of convicted sex offenders. I cannot remember many details about that story seems like its more then a year old now... maybe someone who has a better memory then I will know more of what I'm talking about.
Anyhow my point is this... it took 'em long enough.
